May Pon Scholarship Fund

May Pon Scholarship Fund

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the May Pon Educational Scholarship. The May Pon Educational Scholarship helps to support women business owners throughout California. This fund was generously established by May Pon’s family, after she passed away from cancer in 2019. With the establishment of this Scholarship, her family is honoring and recognizing the decades of dedication May had to NAWBO, her leadership, and her unwavering support of women business owners.

The NAWBO-CA Education Fund May Pon Educational Scholarship grants several $2500 scholarships to NAWBO members who are looking to grow their business and/or seeking higher education to expand their knowledge or credentials.

This scholarship reimburses women business owners for qualified expenses. This scholarship is open to all NAWBO-CA members, and preference will be given to women of color and/or disadvantaged women business owners, as well as those in the accounting/finance industry.

To qualify, applicants must:
1)    be a NAWBO-CA member in good standing,
2)    be a woman business owner,
3)    be in business at least 3 years.

Deadline for the scholarship is Dec 1 every year, and it is for reimbursing expenses spent within the prior year.

Introducing the new NAWBO-CA Education Legacy Fund

Nawbo California Education Fund

Consider making a tax-deductible, charitable contribution to the NAWBO-CA Educational Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization today!

Is your personal wealth greater because of the success of your business and NAWBO? Do you want to give back and support future women business owners? Do you want to build your legacy as a successful woman business owner?

As you consider your annual charitable giving and estate beneficiaries, you likely think of your charities, favorite non-profits, and religious organization. Now you can also contribute to NAWBO and support your NAWBO sisters and the next generation of women entrepreneurs.

Our NAWBO Education Legacy Fund provides grants, scholarships and other opportunities for women business owners to help grow their business and become leaders within their communities.

If you recently:

  • sold your business
  • sold a property
  • sold stock
  • or otherwise have a large income and capital gains
  • You can offset your tax liability by setting up a Donor Advised Fund (DAF).

Example: Assume you have $5m in capital gains. You can make a $500K contribution to your DAF to help reduce your tax liability that year, or you can distribute the funds to various charitable organizations over time. The funds in your DAF can meanwhile be invested in companies and investments that are aligned with your values and can include women-owned businesses, companies that are diverse, or those that are screened against Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria. An opportunity to do good while receiving a tax deduction!
